Day 18 | Fill Light
An alternative to using a direct light source as a fill is to re-direct or "bounce" the key light towards the subjects by using a reflector.
- Fill light is any light that reduces the shadows that are cast by the key light.
- When my subjects are standing in a shadow, I use a reflector and an on-camera flash to fill and illuminate their faces.
- Sometimes the most interesting and fun position for your subject does not always provide the best light. Using my on-camera flash allows me to fill and illuminate their faces.
- My goal in using fill light is not to eliminate all shadows and depth from an image but simply to soften it.
