When shooting a portrait of a single subject, put the focus on the eyes. It took me some time to learn this simple rule and I find it a common mistake with those who attend my workshops. Most people put their cameras focus on the subjects nose, drawing attention directly to the nose and leaving the subjects eyes dull, out of focus and boring. It is said that "The eyes are the window to the soul", I have to agree. In a photograph you want the attention to go directly to the eyes so that the image tells a story.
Great photography doesn’t take fancy equipment or college degrees—just passion and a willingness to invest in yourself and in the memories you’ll be preserving for generations to come.
